WCM-Q Honors 55 Students for Academic Excellence
Doha – October 30, 2023: The Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) Dean’s Honor List recognized 55 high-achieving foundation and pre-medical students for their outstanding academic performance during a grand ceremony.
The event acknowledged the efforts of the students who made it to the list by scoring a grade point average of 3.75 or higher during the Fall or Spring Semester of the 2022—23 Academic Year. The list comprised 48 pre-medical students and seven students in the foundation program. It was a double victory for 30 students who made it to the list in both semesters.
The annual ceremony was attended by WCM-Q faculty, students, alumni, and family members.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCM-Q, said: “I’m so proud of every student who has achieved academic excellence and would like to congratulate all of you for securing a place in the highly coveted list. This is not an easy accomplishment. It requires hard work, commitment, and self-discipline to be named a high-achiever, and you have clearly demonstrated all these qualities. I am confident these students will continue with the same commendable strides as they proceed with their education at WCM-Q and beyond.”
Dr. Sean Holroyd, associate dean for student affairs at WCM-Q, said: “It is wonderful to have so many students celebrate their achievements with their colleagues, families, and friends. This feat comes as a result of their commitment and dedication to their studies. To secure a place on the Dean’s Honor List is a great accomplishment, and I wish the students continued success on their journey to becoming future physicians.”
One of the awarded pre-medical students from the Class of 2028, Abdulaziz Al-Ansari, said: “I’m thrilled to appear on the Dean’s Honor List. This achievement has come as a result of my sincere effort and devotion. I would also not be where I am today without the support of my family, peers, faculty, and WCM-Q at large, as they have contributed to my academic excellence. I appreciate this recognition, which I hope marks the beginning of many future achievements.”
WCM-Q alumna Dr. Sumeja Zahirovic, Class of 2011, now an assistant professor of medicine at WCM-Q, gave the keynote address where she encouraged the students to continue working hard in their studies. “It is an honor to be invited to speak to you all on this special occasion. This is an extremely proud moment for all the students who have worked hard with focus and determination to attain high grades. The WCM-Q faculty will continue to offer you all the academic and moral support needed for you to continue to achieve these wonderful results and eventually become excellent physician-scientists. Congratulations once again,” she said.
