Doha, Qatar – 09 June 2022: Dukhan Bank has become the first partner in Qatar to join Mastercard’s global Digital First Card program. Through the program, Dukhan Bank is now issuing digital prepaid cards as part of the bank's efforts to provide seamless digital banking solutions to enhance customers' experience.
Mastercard’s Digital First Card program is leading the way in the payments industry with a new approach to cards in line with the growth of digital commerce, the proliferation of digital devices, and growing consumer expectations for digital cards. The Mastercard Digital First Card program aims to continue driving the payments industry forward by leading a transformation and consumer-mindset shift in how payments can be performed—resulting in better, faster, and more convenient payment experiences.

The Digital First program provides instant payments and banking services to customers through Dukhan Mobile, including the instant issuance of the new prepaid card and adding to your digital wallet to make payments. Customers can also view digital card data and manage a wide range of card features.

As a member of Digital First program, Dukhan Bank will also issue a uniquely designed physical card which is completely numberless on both sides, providing ultimate protection for theft of personal and financial information. Despite being numberless, the cardholder will be able to use the physical card to make in-store contactless payments. For e-commerce payments, cardholders can use the digital card safely stored and managed within Dukhan Mobile. Backed by Mastercard, the Dukhan Bank digital and physical prepaid cards are accepted by over 20 million vendors across more than 150 countries.

Commenting on the launch of the Bank’s new digital prepaid card, Mr. Talal Ahmed Al-Khaja, Dukhan Bank’s Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, stated:
“As part of our ongoing partnership with Mastercard, Duhkan Bank is delighted to offer customers a digital prepaid card that is safe, convenient and accepted everywhere. Our customers expect the most advanced banking technology in the market, and introducing this innovative technology adds to Dukhan Bank’s range of advanced payment solutions, which offer an unprecedented digital banking experience. In addition to delivering a fast, reliable and seamless payment process through the Dukhan Bank online banking platform, this new card provides a higher level of safety and security in comparison to traditional cards.”

Commenting on the launch, Erdem Çakar, Country Manager, Qatar and Kuwait, Mastercard shared:
“We are honored to collaborate with Dukhan Bank to connect consumers with the very latest in payment technology and take a further step in transforming the digital banking experience in Qatar. This launch comes as a response to the exponential growth in digital commerce and the proliferation of digital devices, meeting consumer’s expectations of seamless, secure payments wherever they may be. We are proud to build on our longstanding partnership with Dukhan Bank to introduce this innovative solution in Qatar for the first time and look forward to many more firsts as we come together to support Qatar’s exceptional digital transformation journey.”

The Dukhan Bank digital prepaid card adds to the Bank’s range of existing digitalized products and services. Recent months have seen the launch of direct remittance to India and new private banking features, as well as the cutting-edge Dukhan Pay (D-Pay) platform to enable contactless payments with Apple, Fitbit and Garmin Pay. In addition, Dukhan Bank has upgraded the easy-to-use banking mobile app and pioneered the Qatar Mobile Payment service (QMP), an e-wallet service which aligns with Qatar Central Bank’s Qatar Mobile Payments initiative and allows customers to make instant, hassle-free transfers and transactions with other wallets at any time.
