Carnegie Mellon Programs Top the U.S. Undergraduate Rankings
September 22, 2021: Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) ranked first in the U.S. for undergraduate programs in computer science and management information systems in the latest edition of U.S. News and World Report. The programs are both offered at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, a Qatar Foundation partner university.
Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q, said: “I am delighted to see our programs in computer science and information systems recognized for their quality and innovation. The Carnegie Mellon approach is to bring together theory and practical problem solving so students will become agile, creative and knowledgeable professionals.”
In the area of undergraduate computer science CMU tied for first place with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University and University of California—Berkeley. In the area of undergraduate information systems, CMU was ranked first among 26 schools.
U.S. News and World Report provides annual rankings of universities and programs in a wide spectrum of categories. In the latest edition, CMU also tied for second with Yale University for Undergraduate Research/Creative Projects, and placed fifth on the Most Innovative Universities list.
Trick noted that the true measure of a Carnegie Mellon education can be seen in the students and graduates.
“While rankings can be useful, I think the best way to see the value of a Carnegie Mellon education is through those who have graduated. At CMU-Q, we have more than 1000 graduates, most of whom are living and working in Qatar. They are leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists and innovators, and they are making an impact in Qatar and around the world.”
On September 1, CMU-Q opened admission applications for students who will begin university in August 2022.
