Doha-Qatar – 19, September 2021: In line with its overarching commitment to promoting sustainability in the community, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (Q.P.S.C.) in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) hosted a cleanup event at “Jazirat Bin Ghannam' in Al Khor beach on the occasion of World Cleanup Day 2021.
World Cleanup Day, held annually in September, is the biggest worldwide clean-up activity, engaging people in more than 180 countries to tackle the global waste crisis. The goal is to clean up as much litter as possible and raise awareness of the impacts of plastic pollution. The “Jazirat Bin Ghannam' beach cleanup activity by Al Meera joins hundreds of initiatives around the world to spread the message of waste reduction and sustainability.
The event saw participation of volunteers from employees at Al Meera corporate office who gathered at “Jazirat Bin Ghannam' in Al Khor beach on September 16 to conduct a thorough clean up, removing plastic waste and other forms of litter from the vicinity. In view of the precautionary measures against COVID-19, the initiative was not held as an event for public participation.

“As the national retailer of the State of Qatar, Al Meera is always looking for ways to advance the well-being of the community. Through this initiative, we seek to make a positive impact on the lives of our customers. We believe the key to a successful future lies hand in hand with our ability to bring sustainability in our daily lives and this is why we are always among the first to champion such initiatives - for the betterment of our community today, and for generations to come. We thank the MME for their support in the “Jazirat Bin Ghannam' beach clean up and continue to host more events in the future.”
The “Jazirat Bin Ghannam' beach clean-up event is part of Al Meera’s widespread Corporate Social Responsibility mission that aims to drive the four pillars of economic, human, social and environmental development enshrined within the Qatar National Vision 2030.
