The program reached students of 82 high schools and universities in Qatar with 41 QIB volunteers taking part in the program’s sessions since 2018

Doha, Qatar – 01, July  2021: Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) announced the successful conclusion of its financial literacy program ‘How Money works?’ in its third academic year with 1629 high school and university students benefiting from the program since its launch in 2018.

Developed by QIB in collaboration with INJAZ Qatar, the program has reached students of 82 high schools and universities in Qatar, and its sessions were held by 41 QIB volunteers who took part in delivering the program’s sessions across the past three academic years.

All sessions were tailored to introduce secondary and first year university students to best practices related to earning money, budgeting, expenditure planning, saving and investment. Additionally, banking security standards and personal finance protection were studied throughout.

Mrs Mashaal Abdulaziz Al Derham, Assistant General Manager, Head of Corporate Communications & Quality Assurance at QIB said: “We believe in the importance in empowering the next generation and future leaders and equipping them with the proper financial knowledge. The “How Money Works” Program has achieved outstanding results and we have surpassed the total number of students by 30% that we had initially targeted to support across the program.”

“QIB launched its financial literacy program as a demonstration of its contribution and commitment towards the achievement of Qatar’s National Vision 2030 in developing human capital and advancing all of society through knowledge. The huge interest this program received reflects our commitment and we are very appreciative of the efforts of the QIB volunteers in delivering this highly successful program,” she concluded.

Al Derham added: “We would like to thank INJAZ Qatar for this great collaboration and we look forward to continuing our fruitful partnership in favor of new generations and future leaders of the Qatari society.”

Mr. Raymond Obeid, Director of Operations at INJAZ Qatar, said: “INJAZ Qatar is very proud of this successful collaboration with QIB, and for the record number of high school and university students who benefited from our program. This has been one of our most successful financial literacy initiatives in Qatar so far, and I would like to thank all the QIB volunteers for working along with our team to deliver the program. I look forward to new future collaborations with QIB.”

Launched in 2018 by Qatar Islamic Bank in collaboration with INJAZ Qatar, ‘How Money works?’ is a three-year innovative financial literacy Program. It reflects QIB’s core social responsibility values, and the bank’s commitment to educating the young generation in Qatar on elementary notions and practices related to finance and business. Due the situation related to COVID-19, and for the safety of students and volunteers, all sessions of the program in the 2020-2021 academic year were held via digital channels.
