Doha, Qatar, 21 December 2020:   Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al Khaliji) P.Q.S.C., Qatar’s next generation bank, has proudly donated to the Qatar Autism Society (QAS) in support of its mission to aid and spread awareness about persons affected by autism.

Commenting on the donation, Mr. Fahad Al Khalifa, Group Chief Executive Officer, at al khaliji, stated:
“We proudly support the Qatar Autism Society as part of our commitment for the wider social, physical and mental wellbeing of the Qatari society. The QAS has been instrumental in supporting individuals affected by autism and their families in addressing their specific needs and developing their full potential. Their work continues to make a difference for many, empowering them to live a life that is fulfilling. In this respect, QAS and al khaliji share a common goal in developing all aspects of the human and social development pillars that are outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a broad range of conditions characterised by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviours, speech and nonverbal communication. It is now accepted that there is not one autism but many subtypes, and each person with autism can have unique strengths and challenges. In Qatar, one in every 87 children are affected by autism as shown study by Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).

A combination of genetic and environmental factors impact the development of autism, which is frequently accompanied with medical issues such as gastrointestinal disorders, seizures and sleep disturbances.

In line with its commitment towards the wellbeing and development of the community, , al khaliji has been an avid supporter of the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs, Qatar Cancer Society (QSC), and Ehsan Center, to name a few.
