Doha, Qatar, 02 February 2020:   Qatar Post supported the mission of Al Shabhana Association, a non-profit organization fighting deforestation in Qatar, by planting trees in the open areas of Qatar Post Headquarters.

The event, entitled ‘Qatar Post for Sustainable Development – Afforestation Campus Qatar’ witnessed a number of “Prosopis” trees being planted. The Prosopis, which is one of the most common small trees in Qatar, is an ideal plant for the desert environment.

Qatar Post officials and volunteers were joined by environmentalists from various organizations, namely: Mr. Meshal Al-Shamari and Ms. Shireen Obediat, Director and Events and Marketing Officer respectively at Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), Mr. Hamoda Youssef, Head of Technical Affairs at (QGBC), Ruba Hinnawi, Technical Specialist at QGBC, Mr. Ahmed Al Mansouri, Vice President of Al Shabhana Association, Dr. Haya Al Farhoud Al Maadidi, Executive Secretary of Al Shabhana Association, among others. They were welcomed by Abdullah Shlash Al Hajri - Chief Human Resources & Services Officer of Qatar Post.

The event marked Qatar Post’s foray into environmental stewardship as part of its corporate social responsibility program. The program sets out to improve the quality of lives of the community in which the national postal service operates.

Abdullah Shlash Al Hajri, the Chief Human Resources & Services Officer at Qatar Post said:

“Through our partnership with Al Shabhana Association, we recognized that an afforestation project will add value to our sites and contribute to the sustainability of the environment in Qatar. The event today was intended to make a statement and show that we can make a difference by collaborating with partners such as QGBC and Qatar Foundation. On our own, we might be effective, but only together can we truly make progress.”

Qatar Post is on a journey to fulfil the sustainability goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030. Last year, it won the ‘Best Postal Service Company’ award at Expo 2019 in Amsterdam for steps taken in energy conservation and reduction in its carbon footprint. These efforts have paved the way towards environment-related certifications such as the ISO 14001 for Environmental Management Systems, Quality Management Certificate 9001, and Occupational Health and Safety System 18001.
