October 22, 2019:    Compass International School Doha (Compass) is delighted to announce that two students have been awarded ‘Top in Qatar’ by Cambridge International Education for the highest mark in Qatar for IGCSE subjects.

Noemi Pajak-Grigorean achieved the highest mark in Qatar in the Art and Design IGCSE and Ada Egilmez was the top student in Qatar in the Coordinated Science IGCSE.

This is the second year in a row that Compass students at the Madinat Khalifa Campus have achieved the highest mark in Coordinated Science in Qatar. The school’s science department continues to go from strength to strength with 47% of IGCSE students achieving A* to A grades in Coordinated Science. The achievement in Coordinated Science is even more impressive since this was a 30% improvement on the students’ standardised CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test) predictions.  This shows the school’s commitment to challenging students and supporting students to progress rapidly.

Compass students performed exceptionally well in other IGCSE subjects, with many achieving A* to A grades including: 86% in Economics, 64% in ICT, 50% in Business Studies and 43% in Maths.

These results are part of a bigger picture, with Compass continuously challenging its students to perform to the best of their abilities, particularly the most able students. Compass drives progress faster by identifying students that are ready to complete their exams earlier than the normal exam timings. Some Year 11 students completed their Maths IGCSE in January instead of June and went on to complete a pre-International Baccalaureate course in Higher Maths. In ICT, nine Year 10 students completed their IGCSE exam a year early and 78% achieved A* to A grades.  Those students will now be completing an extra IGCSE in Year 11.

Paul Holyome, Executive Principal said: “Everyone at Compass is extremely proud of Ada and Noemi. To achieve the highest marks in Qatar is an incredible achievement and a testament to their hard work, determination and ambition. We encourage all children to be ambitious and to see no limits to what they can achieve academically, personally and socially. Noemi and Ada truly display our ‘be ambitious’ philosophy and are excellent role models for our younger children.”

Tom Douch, Head of Secondary at the Madinat Khalifa Campus, said: “Our IGCSE students continue to excel year on year and our school is delighted with their performance. We are committed to supporting our students to become ambitious learners and strong performers, whilst also developing their confidence in their own abilities.”

Compass International School Doha is one of Qatar’s leading schools, providing the very best of British and international curricula for over thirteen years. As part of premium education provider Nord Anglia Education, the school offers children a truly unique international learning experience across four campuses: Gharaffa, Madinat Khalifa, Rayyan and the newest campus, Themaid, which opened in September 2019. Children are educated for the future with enhanced learning through collaborations with world leading organisations; Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Julliard School and UNICEF.
