Education Above All Foundation and OCHA sign an agreement on Humanitarian Assistance for Strengthened Access to Data on Education in Emergencies, Conflict and Insecurity
supported by Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD)
Doha, Qatar, December 18, 2018: Education Above All (EAA) Foundation is pleased to announce its participation at Doha Forum to reflect its commitment towards humanitarian cause. During the Forum, and as part of its strategic commitment, EAA signed an agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Humanitarian Assistance for Strengthened Access to Data on Education in Emergencies, Conflict and Insecurity supported by Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD). The signing ceremony took place on December 16, 2018, in the presence of HE Mr. Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Kuwari, Director General of the Qatar Development Fund and a number of representatives of various entities.
This is the second consecutive year of collaboration between EAA and OCHA to strengthen access to Data on Education in Emergencies, Conflict and Insecurity. In tune with their concerted efforts, EAA and OCHA’s education related data project will highlight how attacks against education during times of conflict and insecurity deprive children of their right to education.
On this announcement, Mr. Mark Lowcock, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, said:
“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with EAA because we believe that there is an urgent need for faster progress to safeguard the right to education of children in conflict zones. We look forward to working with EAA on this project to promote the use and insights from this data with a wider set of humanitarian partners. OCHA and EAA share the same vision to ensure that accurate data is available for use by decision-makers during armed conflict and in humanitarian situations to protect the right to education, to prevent further conflict and to ensure that post-conflict societies can harness the power of education to build peace.”
Following the signing agreement, workshop was organized by EAA, QCRI and OCHA under the theme “Conflicting information and education”. During the workshop, speakers discussed as how the United Nations, governments, civil society organizations, academics, and other stakeholders can work together to improve global data on attacks on education, with a particular focus on the use of humanitarian technology to solve global challenges in collecting data on education and conflict.
The workshop also discussed in depth on topics such as “Protecting Education”, “The Impact of Technology for Social Good”, as well as the “Artificial Intelligence”. The workshop concluded with Q&A session by the audience.
