As the world's most widely used green building rating system, this accolade from LEED highlights the property's efforts to minimise environmental impact through sustainable practices, energy efficiency, and beyond

Doha, Qatar (April 2025): Housed in the historic former Ministry of Interior building, The Ned Doha exudes a chic, 1970s-inspired style in its art gallery-like spaces. Yet, behind its striking façade, as recognised by a recent LEED accolade, the hotel's design merges aesthetic appeal with environmentally conscious principles. Having made history as the first and only hotel in Doha to earn a gold-level LEED O+M certification for an existing building, this stunning property stands as an exemplary model of sustainability, showcasing the significant environmental impact that thoughtful design and operation can achieve.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification sets the standard for green buildings, promoting efficiency, sustainability, and long-term benefits for both people and the planet. As a globally recognised mark of environmental excellence, LEED-certified properties like The Ned Doha play a crucial role in tackling climate change and advancing ESG goals. Evaluated across seven key areas—Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation in Design Process, and Regional Priority— this certification ensures a holistic approach to responsible design.

Meanwhile, LEED O+M (Operations and Maintenance) focuses on enhancing the sustainability of buildings that have been fully operational for at least a year. An ideal framework for preserving architectural heritage while reducing environmental impact, it highlights that demolishing an existing structure in favour of new construction comes with a heavy ecological cost. By becoming the first and only hotel to receive the Gold LEED certification in the O+M category for existing buildings, The Ned Doha has not only honoured the city's rich history but also embraced a more sustainable future.

Achieving gold certification reflects The Ned Doha's success in integrating sustainable design and operational excellence throughout the property. This prestigious recognition highlights the hotel's efforts to minimise environmental impact, with measures like reducing heat and light pollution, improving waste management, controlling tobacco smoke, green cleaning practices, and enhancing energy performance.

The Ned Doha is a modernist masterpiece designed in the 1970s by renowned Lebanese architect William Sednaoui, features grids, nooks, waffle ceilings, and textures that make it an architectural landmark on Doha's Corniche waterfront. Thoughtfully reimagined by David Chipperfield Architects Berlin with interiors by Soho House Design, the hotel strikes a perfect balance between preserving its historical significance and introducing a contemporary aesthetic that elevates its role as a cultural and social hub.

Beyond its striking design and rich architectural heritage, The Ned Doha is a shining example of how historic spaces can be revitalised with sustainability at their core. Every aspect of the hotel's operations, from efficient energy use to mindful waste management, reflects a forward-thinking approach that proves thoughtful design can drive meaningful environmental impact. As a premier hospitality destination in Doha, The Ned Doha seamlessly blends luxury with responsible practices, setting a powerful example that elegance and environmental consciousness can thrive hand in hand.
