• This sponsorship supports QICDRC’s continuous efforts to position Qatar as a hub for dispute resolution in the region and advance the nation’s judicial and commercial development strategy through international collaborations

Sunday 29 September – Doha, Qatar:  Highlighting Qatar’s commitment to the highest international standards of the resolution of civil and commercial disputes, a delegation from the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) took part in the Annual Conference of the International Bar Association Seoul (IBA 2019) from 22 to 27 September 2019.

The Conference’s opening remarks were held by a line-up of eminent figures, including the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in; eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon; the Mayor of Seoul, Park Won-soon; and President of the IBA, Horacio Bernardes Neto.

5000 renowned experts and professionals from the global legal community gathered at this year’s edition in Seoul, South Korea. For the third consecutive year, QICDRC participated as Gold sponsor, effectively reaffirming its focus on international engagement and cooperation.

The QICDRC also hosted a successful seminar on the side-lines of the event titled ‘The Rise of the Commercial Courts in Asia and the Middle East’, featuring panellists from various jurisdictions, including Qatar, Singapore and Kazakhstan. The discussions focused on how international commercial courts have developed a unique legal model by adopting best practices in dispute resolution. QICDRC’s strategic position as a meeting point between East and West as well as its active role in the Conference circuit was also highlighted during the seminar.

Remarking on the Court’s directive to promote international collaboration within key commerce and trade centres, Faisal Al-Sahouti, QICDRC’s CEO said: “Collaboration and knowledge-exchange at key legal events help advance QICDRC’s distinguished legal framework among the global community. We have reinforced important relationships with our South Korean counterparts and established an important dialogue on the future of international arbitration and dispute resolution.”

“Once again, the IBA platform has allowed us to leverage a global network of judicial expertise and promote Qatar as an international hub for commercial arbitration. We return with a strengthened dedication to the promotion of safe and accessible dispute settlement solutions based on the rule of law, to better service our community today and in the future,” he concluded.

The Court continues to advance Qatar’s judicial and commercial development strategy through international collaboration. Earlier this year, it concluded a momentous agreement with the World Bank Group’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) to promote the wider use of arbitration and position Qatar as a hub for alternative dispute resolution in the region.

In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, QICDRC is leading national development efforts in the judicial sector through unprecedented efficiency, flexibility and access to legal justice. QICDRC’s growing jurisdiction – together with its renowned international judges and state-of-the-art courtroom technology – supports its position among the global leadership of commercial arbitration and judicial excellence.
